Shrimp fishery in Iran increases

BAKU, Azerbaijan, Mar. 18

The shrimp fishing in Iran increased by 41 percent in the current Iranian year (from March 20, 2020, through March 20, 2021), compared to last Iranian year, the Director-General for Fishing Affairs of Iran Fisheries Organization, Mokhtar Akhondi said, Trend reports referring to the Ministry of Agriculture Jihad.

The director-general noted that so far, 6,660 tons of shrimp have been caught in the waters of southern Iran.

Akhondi added that it is forecasted that 12,000 tons of shrimp will be caught in Iran by the end of the current fishing season.

“About 9,500 tons of shrimp were caught in the waters of southern Iran in the last fishing season,” he said.

The official stressed that 30 percent of shrimps caught in Iran were caught in Bushehr Province, 48 percent in Khuzestan Province, and 22 percent in Hormozgan Province.

Akhondi also said that the price of 1 kg of shrimp in Iran varies between 250,000-1.1 million rials (about $5.9 - $26) depending on the type.
