Georgia buys record amount of wheat from three countries

Georgia bought a record amount of wheat from three countries in February 2021, Trend reports via the National Statistical Office (Geostat).

According to the Geostat, the country imported 37,877 tonnes of wheat and meslin ($9.222 million) last month that is 103 percent more compared with the same period of last year. In February 2020 Georgia imported 18,645 tons of wheat worth $4.111 million.

In February the largest amount of wheat was imported from Russia, namely 32,252 tons worth $8,096 million, followed by the United States with 4,998 tons of wheat worth $955,300. The third country where Georgia bought wheat is Kazakhstan - 627.3 tons worth $178,500.

From January through February 2021, a total of 67,274 tons of wheat and meslin worth $15.923 million were imported to Georgia that is 45 percent more than in the same period last year.

In the first two months of last year, 46,377 tons of wheat and meslin worth $10,215 million were imported to Georgia.

From January through February 2021, Georgia bought wheat:

Russia - 50,601 tons ($12.686 million)
US - 10,046 tons ($3,058 million)
Kazakhstan - 627.3 tons ($178,500).
