The guaranteed purchase of wheat from farmers in Iran in the current Iranian year will start in the middle of the current month (from March 21 through April 20, 2021), Director General of the Internal Procurement Department of the Government Trading Corporation (GTC) of Iran Morteza Saadati Kia said, Trend reports citing the corporation’s website.
The director-general noted that the wheat purchasing will begin in Iran's Khuzestan, Sistan, and Baluchestan, and Bushehr provinces, and will continue until December 6, 2021.
He added that along with wheat, the purchasing of oilseeds such as rapeseed, safflower, sunflower, and soybeans will be launched.
Saadati Kia stressed that wheat has been planted on more than 6 million hectares of land in Iran, and thus, the volume of purchased wheat is estimated to increase.
According to him, the price of 1 kg of wheat will be 40,000 rials (about $0.95) in the current Iranian year, and 1,100 centers are to be set up in Iran for purchasing of wheat.
The director-general said that 8.2 million tons of wheat were purchased from farmers in Iran at a price of 25,000 rials (about $0.59) per kilogram last year.
