Georgia reveals value of annual profit of pawnshops

BAKU, Azerbaijan, March 29

The value of the annual profit of the pawnshops stood at 18.4 million lari ($5.5 million) at the end of 2020 in Georgia, Trend reports referring to National Statistics Office (Geostat).

As reported, 57 percent of them fall on the pawnshops, operating in Tbilisi while the rest are distributed to various regions.

The number of borrowers in the pawnshops in 2020 equaled 307,000 persons, of which the majority (approximately 99.9 percent) are physical entities.

The annual weighted average interest rate on loans equaled 27.8 percent, in the national currency – 27.9 percent, in the foreign currency - 24.3 percent.

The highest annual weighted average interest rate on loans was in Racha-Lechkhumi and Kvemo Svaneti (36 percent), but the lowest - in Samtskhe-Djavakheti - (22.3 percent).

In terms of the volume of extended loans, the regional distribution was as follows: Tbilisi – 66.3 percent, Adjara - 22.6 percent, Imereti - 4.6 percent, Samegrelo-Zemo Svaneti - 4.2 percent and Kvemo Kartli - 1.1 percent.

The analogous picture is present for contracted loans by regions: Tbilisi -70.7 percent, Adjara -21.7 percent, Imereti - 3.4 percent, Samegrelo-Zemo Svaneti -2.6 percent and Kvemo Kartli - 0.8 percent.
