Lamb exports from Kazakhstan drop year-on-year

The export of lamb from Kazakhstan has decreased by half in 2020 compared to 2019, Trend reports citing the data of the analytical portal of the Development Bank of Kazakhstan.

The 2019 lamb export amounted to $12.5 million, whereas the 2020 export equaled $5.6 million.

The top 3 importing countries include the United Arab Emirates (UAE), Uzbekistan and Russia. Meat worth more than $5.5 million was supplied to these countries, which is 97.1 percent of the exported lamb.

Kazakhstan’s lamb is also exported to Iran, Azerbaijan, Bahrain and Oman.

Main Kazakhstan’s regions that exported lamb in 2020 were Aktobe, Pavlodar, Zhambyl, Turkestan and West Kazakhstan.

Fresh and chilled meat was mainly were exported from Zhambyl and Turkestan regions.

Pork export volume remained unchanged in 2020 compared to 2019 when goods worth $1.4 million were exported from Kazakhstan to other countries. Over the past two years, the Aktobe region has been the main supplier of pork abroad.

Unlike lamb and pork, beef exports from Kazakhstan increased by 34.8 percent over the year from $23.3 million in 2019 to more than $31.4 million in 2020.

Uzbekistan, Russia and China were the top 3 countries that imported Kazakhstan’s beef, as 97 percent of the total beef exports accounted for these countries.

Belarus and Kyrgyzstan are among the top countries in terms of meat supplies from Kazakhstan. Top-3 regions of Kazakhstan that provide beef export are Turkestan, Akmola and Aktobe regions.

As for the horse meat, no exports were recorded in 2019. Horse meat was exported to foreign markets for a total of just over $100,000 in 2020.
