Turkmenistan, Japan discuss relevant issues of co-op

Turkmenistan and Japan discussed the priorities of cooperation in a number of areas, Trend reports with reference to Turkmenistan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The discussion took place during a videoconference between Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan Vepa Hajiyev and Deputy Director-General of the European Affairs Bureau of the MFA of Japan, Deputy Assistant Minister Tokuda Shuichi.

During the meeting, current projects and issues related to their implementation were discussed. Positive experience of cooperation in the oil and gas and gas chemical industries, in the fields of electric power, transport and others was noted.

The importance of the Turkmen-Japanese and Japanese-Turkmen Committees on Economic Cooperation was also highlighted.

The cooperation between the foreign ministries of the two countries was highly appreciated. The sides exchanged views on relevant issues on the regional and international agenda.

The two countries expressed their interest in organizing mutual visits at the highest level. The effectiveness of inter-parliamentary cooperation was noted.

The parties also discussed key aspects of cultural and humanitarian relations. The effectiveness of contacts in science, education, and medicine was noted.

Turkmenistan and Japan successfully cooperate within the framework of international organizations, in particular within the UN. In recent years, cooperation in the political, trade, economic, cultural, and humanitarian fields has increased.

A number of major projects have been implemented with the participation of Japanese companies. Among them - ammonia and urea plant in Turkmenistan's city of Mary, a urea plant and polymer complex in the Balkan region, an enterprise for the production of gasoline from natural gas in the Akhal region.

Japan has also shown interest in participating in projects to develop the industrial infrastructure of the Galkynysh gas field.
