Georgia shares data on revenues from tobacco excise duty

BAKU, Azerbaijan, April 12

The Georgian budget received 45.1 million lari ($13.2 million) from tobacco excise duty from January through February 2021, against 19.1 million lari ($5.5 million) in the same period of 2020, Trend reports via Georgian media.

At the same time, payments for both imported and local cigarettes increased.

In particular, in the reporting period, local producers paid excise taxes in the amount of 7.1 million lari ($2.07 million), while importers - 38.02 million lari ($11.1 million).

Of this amount, a fixed tax accounts for 19.7 million lari ($5.7 million), an ad valorem tax – 18.2 million lari ($5.3 million).

From January through February 2020, local producers paid excise taxes in the amount of 2.6 million lari ($761,284), importers - 16.5 million lari ($4.8 million), including 9.2 million lari ($2.6 million) in a flat tax, 7.3 million lari ($2.1 million) ad valorem.

As reported, in 2020 the budget of Georgia received 792 million lari ($231.8 million) in revenue from tobacco excise duty.
