Production of wheat and potato in Georgia increases

BAKU, Azerbaijan, April 16

Tamilla Mammadova – Trend:

Production of wheat in Georgia increased by 0.6 percent in 2020, compared to the same period of the previous year, resulting in 101,200 tons, Trend reports via the National Statistics Office (Geostat).

Production of barley decreased by 13.8 percent year-on-year, resulting in 46,100 tons. Production of maize reached 263,000 tons, which is 27 percent more than in the same period of the previous year.

Production of potato increased by 10.8 percent and consisted of 215,700 tons. Overall, the production of vegetables equaled 180,100 tons, which is 11.8 percent higher compared to 2019.

In 2020, the average yield of wheat and barley has decreased compared to the previous year, while the average yield of maize, potato and vegetables has increased.

Meanwhile, the average yield of wheat consisted of 2.2 t/ha, average yield of barley – 1.9 t/ha, average yield of maize – 3.1 t/ha, average yield of potato – 13.2 t/ha, average yield of vegetables - 11.3 t/ha, of which average yield of tomato was 15.2 t/ha, average yield of cucumber – 13.3 t/ha, average yield of onion – 7.6 t/ha, average yield of garlic – 3.1 t/ha, though average yield of cabbage decreased and consisted of – 26.2 t/ha.
