Georgia sees increase in production of nuts and grapes

BAKU, Azerbaijan, April 16

Sown areas of annual crops in Georgia amounted to 211,300 hectares in 2020, which is 4.1 percent more than in the same period of the previous year, Trend reports via the National Statistics Office (Geostat).

As reported, sown areas of winter crops were 59,500 hectares and sown areas of spring crops – 151,900 hectares. Sown area of maize took the biggest share in the sown areas of annual crops and equaled 83,700 hectares.

Sown area of wheat was 47,100 hectares, sown area of barley – 25,600 hectares, sown area of potato – 16,400 hectares, sown areas of fodder crops – 13,000 hectares, sown area of vegetables – 12,800 hectares and sown areas of the remaining crops 12,700 hectares.

According to the Geostat, in 2020 production of pome fruit consisted of 101,900 tons in the country, which is 93.4 percent higher than in the same period of the previous year.

Production of stone fruit consisted of 63,200 tons (64.2 percent higher), production of nuts - 40,900 tons (32.4 percent higher), production of subtropical fruit - 22,300 tons (9.9 percent higher) and production of citruses - 57,100 tons (decreasing by 10.8 percent). Besides of this, in 2020 production of grapes increased by 8.5 percent year-on-year reaching 318,900 tons.
