Iran, Qatar may connect their power networks

TEHRAN, Iran, Apr.16

Trend:

It is possible that Iran and Qatar will connect their power networks via marine cables, said Vice president of the Federation of Iran's energy exports and related industries Alireza Ghafourifard, Trend reports citing Fars News Agency.

"Iran's domestic capacity could transform the country into a regional energy hub," said Ghafourifard.

He also noted that public and private sectors could participate in the project and expand the potential of the connection.

"If there are right conditions, Iran and Qatar could connect their networks. Iran has technical capacity to fully operate the network, and while there might be some issues with sanctions, Iran's government could solve them," he said.

"It seems that the Iran and Qatar power network connection project has been discussed via the recent video conference between Iran's Minister of Energy and his Qatari counterpart Saad Sherida al-Kaabi but I am not aware of more details in this regard," he said.
