External merchandise trade of Georgia down

BAKU, Azerbaijan, April 19

The external merchandise trade (excluding non-declared trade) of Georgia amounted to $2.77 billion from January through March 2021, 0.3 percent lower to the same period of 2020, Trend reports referring to Georgian National Statistics Office (Geostat).

The exports equaled $820.6 million (5.2 percent higher), while the imports stood at $1.95 billion (2.4 percent lower).

The negative trade balance was $1.13 billion from January through March 2021 and its share in external trade turnover constituted 40.8 percent.

From January through March 2021 the share of the top ten trading partners by exports in the total exports of Georgia amounted to 76.7 percent. The top partners were China ($109.8 million), Russia ($109.5 million), and Azerbaijan ($104.6 million).

In the reporting period, the share of the top ten trading partners by imports in the total imports of Georgia amounted to 71.5 percent. The top partners were Turkey ($343.3 million), Russia ($220.4 million), and China ($182.8 million).

From January through March 2021 the share of the top ten trading partners in the total external trade turnover of Georgia amounted to 72.2 percent. The top trading partners were Turkey ($419 million), Russia ($329.8 million), and China ($292.6 million).
