BAKU, Azerbaijan, Apr. 19

Romania has good prospects for a reboot of its bilateral economic cooperation with Azerbaijan in 2021, the Romanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs told Trend.

The Ministry said that fortunately, lately good news with regard to the fight against the spread of the coronavirus pandemic are being observed, with increasingly effective protective measures and particularly the successful rollout of vaccination in many countries, including in Romania and Azerbaijan.

"Against this more optimistic background, we have good prospects for a reboot of our bilateral economic cooperation in 2021, starting with several key areas – energy, connectivity, and trade,” the Ministry official said.

In the energy field, the official said the first volumes of Azerbaijani gas have reached Europe last year; discussions can now proceed more in-depth on the options to channel in the future the Caspian gas towards new markets in Central or Eastern Europe, throughout Romania.

"As far as connectivity is concerned, Romania and Azerbaijan have been working closely for some time, together with Georgia and Turkmenistan, to develop the Caspian Sea-Black Sea Freight Corridor – which represents an extension across the Black Sea of the East-West corridor,” the official said.
