France’s Orano company is planning to invest 100 million euro in development of new mining sector in Kazakhstan, Trend reports citing Kazakhstan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The topic was discussed during the meeting of Kazakhstan’s Ambassador to France Jean Galiev and the standing member of the Orano Mining Executive Committee Nicolas Maes.

During the meeting, the parties exchanged views on the development trends of the world uranium market, as well as issues of expanding partnership between the two countries in the uranium industry.

Maes noted during the meeting that to date Orano has invested 1 billion euros into Kazakhstan’s economy via the KATKO joint venture, which created 1,200 jobs.

He added that the joint venture is planning to invest an additional 100 million euros in the development of a new sector of its mining production, thus confirming the status of a reliable and long-term strategic partner of Kazakhstan.

At the same time, the company plans to take an active part in the implementation of social and environmental projects in Kazakhstan.

KATKO LLP JV carries out the production of uranium mining by the method of in-situ leaching in the northern part of site No.1 (South) and at site No.2 (Tortkuduk) of the Moinkum deposit in the Turkestan region.
