Romania identifies areas to enhance bilateral co-op with Azerbaijan

BAKU, Azerbaijan, Apr. 29

By Nargiz Sadikhova - Trend:

Romania strongly encourages the enhancement of bilateral cooperation with Azerbaijan, The Romanian Foreign Ministry told Trend.

The ministry official said that Azerbaijan is the only country in the South-Caucasus region with which Romania has strategic partnership relations, as Romania was the first EU Member State to conclude a Declaration of Strategic Partnership with Baku, back in 2009, followed in 2011 by an Action Plan for its implementation.

"The two documents have provided significant incentives to our bilateral relations, with an expansion of political dialogue and practical cooperation in different fields of common interest," the official said.

The official noted that Romania is interested in further developing sectoral cooperation in various fields: energy, transport, diversification of economic activities, collaboration at the level of administrative-territorial units, education and culture and so on.

"Following the 5th session of the Joint Intergovernmental Commission for economic cooperation, held in Bucharest in November 2019, a new and updated Action Plan was agreed between the two parties, which is currently being implemented," the ministry official said.

Unfortunately, the official said, all global economies are facing difficulties.

"We have all been coping with the unprecedented challenges brought about by the global health crisis, while international trade and economic cooperation witnessed various disruptions and setbacks, which also had an impact on the economic and trade cooperation between Romania and Azerbaijan," the official said.
