Romania unveils trade turnover dynamics with Azerbaijan

BAKU, Azerbaijan, May 2

By Nargiz Sadikhova - Trend:

Regardless of all COVID-related obstacles and difficulties, Romania continues to value its relations with Azerbaijan, the Romanian Foreign Ministry told Trend.

The ministry official said that given the travel restrictions imposed by the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, the 6th session of the Joint Intergovernmental Commission for economic cooperation had to be postponed; the organization of business forums for promoting companies, economic climate and cooperation opportunities in both countries was also affected.

According to Romanian statistics, the official said, in 2020 the exports of Romania to Azerbaijan amounted to $47.7 million, which is 14.9 percent lower than in 2019; at the same time, the imports of Romania from Azerbaijan were 36.09 percent lower compared to the previous year, amounting to only $131.5 million.

“Nonetheless, regardless of all obstacles and difficulties, Romania continues to value its relations with the Republic of Azerbaijan: in 2020 Romania transferred to the World Health Organization country office in Azerbaijan a voluntary contribution amounting to 10,000 EUR, with the aim of supporting the fight against the pandemic,” the official said.

The official added that sum went to the PROACT Care program of the organization, having as a main objective the improvement of access to healthcare services for people with chronic diseases in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic.
