Canada reveals volume of bilateral trade with Georgia

BAKU, Azerbaijan, May 5

Bilateral trade between Canada and Georgia stood at $51.43 million (an increase of 30.73 percent compared to 2019) in 2020, the Canadian Department of Foreign Affairs and International Trade (DFAIT) told Trend.

"Canadian exports to Georgia were $29.7 million in 2019 (an increase of 15.3 percent compared to 2018), while imports from Georgia were $21.73 million (an increase of 60 percent compared to 2018), the source noted.

According to the department, Canada and Georgia enjoy positive bilateral relations.

"There are opportunities for Canadian companies operating in the hydropower, ICT, agriculture and agri-business, mining and property developments, to do business with Georgia," the source noted.

As the source added, the Canadian Trade Commissioner Service supports Canadian companies seeking opportunities in Georgia, namely in the energy, renewable energy, and hydropower sectors.

Canada recognized Georgia soon after its separation from the Soviet Union in 1991. In July 1992, Canada and Georgia formally established diplomatic relations. Since establishing diplomatic relations; relations between both nations have gradually been increasing.
