BAKU, Azerbaijan, May 8

By Tamilla Mammadova – Trend:

The European Union (EU) has funded an OECD Investment Review for Georgia in 2020, the EU Delegation in Georgia told Trend.

"The Investment Policy Review takes stock of recent achievements in improving the investment climate and assesses areas for the government to consider in strengthening its reform efforts to attract FDI that can have a positive impact on inclusive, sustainable growth," the EU said.

We also finance a Financial Inclusion and Accountability project as well as the DIGITAL RE4M Program, the source added.

Results of the EU support to access to finance in Georgia in 2019:

- Some 2,956 SMEs received loans (27.6 percent to women-owned SMEs)
- 237 million euros total value of loans
- 89,977 euros average loan
- 9 partner financial institutions supported

Some example of assistance under EU4Bussiness:

• EU and UNDP help provide PPE to COVID-19 pandemic front-line medics in Georgia
• EU4Business and EBRD help Georgian digital agency build global brand recognition.

The European Union and Georgia have maintained relations since 1996 in the INOGATE framework, and in 2006 a five-year "Action Plan" of rapprochement was implemented in the context of the European Neighbourhood Policy.
