Georgia sees increase in number of cattle

BAKU, Azerbaijan, May 18

Tamilla Mammadova – Trend:

The number of cattle increased by 4.4 percent at the end of the first quarter of 2021 in Georgia compared to the first quarter of 2020 and reached 1 million heads, Trend reports via the National Statistics Office (Geostat).

As reported, the total number of dairy cows and buffaloes increase by 1.5 percent from the same period of the previous year and equaled 468,500 heads.

The total number of sheep and goats down by 4.5 percent and year-on-year amounted to 1 million heads.

According to the preliminary data, in the first quarter of 2021 milk production increased by 7.8 percent compared to the same period of the previous year and it has reached 115.3 million liters.

The number of pigs equaled 174,700 heads which is 3.8 percent more than at the same period of the previous year. The number of poultry increased by 10.4 percent compared to the same period of the previous year and reached 11.3 million heads.

Meat production decreased by 2.5 percent from the same period of the previous year and equaled 15,800 tons.

Egg production amounted to 171.4 million pieces which are 6.9 percent more than in the same period of the previous year.
