TBC Capital shares data on Georgia’s hotel sector

BAKU, Azerbaijan, July 3

Tamilla Mammadova – Trend:

Georgia’s hotel sector is operating at an average of 29 percent against 70 percent in 2019, Trend reports via the TBC Capital.

The indicators differ depending on the size of the hotels - in large hotels the occupancy rate is much higher and amounts to 48 percent, while small and medium-sized hotels are operating at 13 percent occupancy.

According to the TBC Capital study, hotels with more than 80 rooms are considered large, and with less than 80 rooms - small.

Amid low occupancy, hotels are trying to attract customers with low prices - the prices for rooms in large hotels decreased by 34 percent compared with the same period of 2019.

TBC Capital expects that in the remaining period of 2021 hotel occupancy will reach an average of 45 percent from 2019, in 2023 the gap will be only 5 percent.

Analysts say that due to high competition and lack of tourists, prices will return to the COVID-19 pre-pandemic levels no earlier than 2023.
