Iran’s Textile and Apparel Production and Export Union talks importance of public funding

TEHRAN, Iran, July 22

Trend:

Iran's clothing production could increase by government support, said a board member of Iran’s Textile and Apparel Production and Export Union.

The statistics issued by the Ministry of Industry, Mine, and Trade indicate clothing production in the country is 385,000 tons per year. The export volume in the last Iranian year (started March 20,2020) was 18,000 tons valued $113 million, Majid Nami told Trend in an interview.

He went on to say that the clothing consumption in Iran is about 500,000 tons per year and therefore production should aim to increase to fill the void between production and consumption.

"The issues caused by global pandemic including restrictions are one of elements that reduced consumption," Nami added.

The government has provided a development plan in cooperation with the Ministry of Industry, Mine and Trade and the private sector that discussed grounds for infrastructures in the clothing industry.

The priority of this program is for the construction of industrial units. The other priority is the management of the production cycle and providing basic material, machinery, and spare parts for clothing production. The third priority is providing financing to small and medium clothing production factories in the country.

"One of the priorities in government plans was financing investment and purchase of equipment and machinery needed for products that could be supplied by low-interest rate financing," he noted.

Nami stressed that public funding will bring renovations in the production industry.
