Iran to face severe shortages of livestock in coming months?

TEHRAN, Iran, July 24

Trend :

The Chairman of Animal Farmers Union in Iran, Mojtaba A'ali has warned that the country will face a severe shortage in the supply of livestock and meat in the next three to six months, Trend reports via Mehr New Agency.

"Drought has led Iran to sever lack of meat," ‏ A'ali said.

Yet, he believes Iran can get out of the situation.

"The economic situation has crippled the producers and the people," he said, adding that everyone must work together to get out of the current situation, otherwise Iran will face the 'worst consequences'.

Iran imports most of its animal feed and because of inflation and the depreciation of its currency is unable to afford subsidizing animal feed for farmers.

Iran’s currency has lost its value eightfold in the past three years, mainly due to US sanctions.
