Cargo transported between Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan surges despite pandemic

The volume of cargo transported between Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan by all means of transport has increased in 1Q2021 compared to the same period last year despite the COVID-19 pandemic, Trend reports citing the press office of Kazakh prime minister.

The strategic partnership between Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan is dynamically developing in all areas, including the transit and transport sector.

The Kazakh and Uzbek sides are taking measures to build up transport and logistics potential to increase the volume of mutual trade.

The trade turnover between the countries increased by 46 percent in 1Q2021 compared to the same period last year and amounted to $1.5 billion. Kazakhstan’s export to Uzbekistan increased by 58.4 percent.

Furthermore, an increase in indicators for all types of freight traffic between Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan was observed despite the COVID-19 pandemic.

The container traffic amounted to 233,900 TEUs with an increase of 57 percent in 1Q2021 compared to the same period in 2020. The volume of cargo transportation by road increased by 18 percent and amounted to 1.3 million tons in 1H2021.
