Iran's trade turnover with EU member states declines

BAKU, Azerbaijan, Aug. 4

By Elnur Baghishov – Trend:

The value of Iran's trade turnover with EU member states fell by $30 billion a result of the new US sanctions against Iran, the Chairman of Iran's Chamber of Commerce, Industries, Mines and Agriculture (ICCIMA) Gholamhossein Shafei said, Trend reports citing the ICCIMA’s website.

He made the remark during a meeting with the Ambassador of Finland to Iran Keijo Norvanto.

Shafei noted that this has had some negative effects on the economies of both sides.

“Despite this, Iran has the potential to boost trade with EU member states, including Finland, and thus, it is possible to compensate for this damage,” the chairman added.

During the meeting, Norvanto said that great steps could be taken to develop trade relations between Finland and Iran. It is necessary to wait what changes will be carried out by the new Iranian government in the economic sector.

The ambassador stressed that the development of economic relations between Finland and Iran requires the identification of significant cooperation fields. It is important for businessmen of both countries to exchange information on the economic position of Iran and Finland.

Norvanto expressed hope that the lifting of sanctions against Iran would create conditions for the development of trade relations between Iran and Finland.
