The number of TEU containers exported through the Shahid Rajaee port in the Hormozgan Province (southern Iran) increased by 28 percent during the first five months of the current Iranian year (from March 21 through August 22, 2021), compared to the same period last Iranian year, Director General of Ports and Maritime Department in Hormozgan Province Alireza Mohammadi said, Trend reports citing Iranian Ports and Maritime Organization (PMO).
Mohammadi said that in total, 189,000 TEU containers were exported through this port over the reporting period.
“Moreover, 172,000 TEU containers were imported through this port in the 5 months, and imports did not change in terms of number, compared to the same period last Iranian year,” he added.
The director general noted that 113,000 TEU containers were transited through the port within the mentioned period, which is a 100-percent increase compared to the same period last Iranian year.
“During the five months, 675 container ships carrying containers docked at the Shahid Rajaee port. This is 3 percent more than in the same period last Iranian year,” Mohammadi said.
As reported, Iran’s Shahid Rajaee port is located on an area of 2,400 hectares. The port has the capacity to receive 100 million tons of cargo a year.
