Iran’s South Khorasan Province supplies half of country’s coal concentrate needs

BAKU, Azerbaijan, Sept. 7

About 50 percent of Iran's coal concentrate needs is provided by the South Khorasan Province (northeastern Iran), Deputy Chairman of the Industry, Mine and Trade Organization of the South Khorasan Province Hojjat Imantalab said, Trend reports citing the organization.

The deputy emphasized that Iran needs 2.5 million tons of coal concentrate a year. Its 1.2 million tons are produced in South Khorasan Province.

Imantalab added that there are currently 31 coal mines with reserves of 875 million tons in the province.

“Within the first five months of the current Iranian year (March 21 through August 22, 2021), 1.02 million tons of coal were extracted from the mines in the South Khorasan Province and about 400,000 tons of concentrate were produced,” he said.

There are about 6,000 people working in the coal mines of South Khorasan Province, the deputy chairman noted.
