Uzbekistan increases imports of goods, services

Uzbekistan’s imports of goods and services amounted to $15.6 billion from January through August 2021 and increase in growth rates, compared to the same period of 2020, amounted to 20.9 percent, Trend reports citing Uzbekistan’s State Statistics Committee.

The main share in its structure is held by machinery and transport equipment (33.6 percent), industrial goods (18.3 percent), as well as chemicals and similar products (14 percent).

Analysis of the dynamics of imports of goods also showed that, the volume of imports of goods increased by $2.4 billion and amounted to $14.6 billion, and imports of services reached $1 billion.

The share of imports from the CIS countries, increased by 2.5 percent and their share in foreign trade turnover, amounted to 39.4 percent.

In general, Uzbekistan imported goods and services from 153 countries. One third of imports comes from such large partner countries as China, Russia, Kazakhstan, South Korea, Turkey, Germany and India.

In the structure of imports, a significant share is noted in Tashkent, which is 47.9 percent, or $7.5 billion, and the smallest share is recorded in Surkhandarya - 0.9 percent, or $145.9 million.

The volume of imports of services amounted to $1 billion, or 6.5 percent of its total volume and increased compared to the same period in 2020, by 33.5 percent. Tourism (48.6 percent), other business services (11.6 percent), transport services (11.3 percent), telecommunications, computer and information services (8.5 percent) account for the bulk of imports of services.

During the period under review, the volume of machinery and transport equipment in the structure of imports reached $5.2 billion and increased, compared to the same period in 2020, by $391.8 million (8 percent). The share of machinery and transport equipment in the total volume of imports amounted to 33.6 percent.

In the structure of Uzbekistan’s imports, the volume of industrial goods reached $2.8 billion and increased by 30.1 percent. The share in the total volume of imports amounted to 18.3 percent.

The main imports of industrial goods fall on iron and steel ($1.2 billion), metal products ($353.9 million), non-metallic minerals ($249.4 million) and textile yarn, fabrics, finished products ($242.3 million).
