Uzbekistan increases import of electric cars

Uzbekistan imported 501 electric vehicles from January through August 2021, which is 428 more cars compared to the same period in 2020, Trend reports citing Uzbekistan’s State Statistics Committee.

Electric vehicles worth $9.2 million were imported to Uzbekistan from 9 foreign countries.

The biggest amount of electric cars was imported from China (443 cars).

Turkey is on the second place with 24 cars, Lithuania took third place with 13 cars and Germany comes next with 7 cars.

The US exported 6 cars to Uzbekistan, South Korea - 5 cars; Spain, Russia and Hong Kong exported 1 car each.

Recently Trend reported that Uzbekistan plans to establish production of electric vehicles by the end of 2022 on the basis of the Central Asia Motors enterprise in Fergana region.

The total cost of the project with a capacity of 10,000 vehicles per year is $55 million; of these, $43 million account for foreign direct investments.

The project will be implemented jointly with the Chinese company Hong Kong ZRSC Technology. Production is expected to start in December 2022. The plant will open up at least 100 new jobs.
