Iran sees increase in volume of bony fish caught in Caspian Sea

BAKU, Azerbaijan, Dec. 28

The volume of bony fish caught by Iran in the Caspian Sea increased by 11 percent, from October 12 to December 21, compared to the same period last Iranian year, the Director-General for Fishing Affairs of Iran Fisheries Organization, Mokhtar Akhondi said, Trend reports referring to the Ministry of Agriculture Jihad.

Akhondi said that Iran caught 1,458 tons of bony fish in the Caspian Sea within the mentioned period.

The director general added that 41 percent of the bony fish was caught in Iran's Gilan Province, 51 percent in Mazandaran and 8 percent in Golestan Province.

“So, 600 tons of bony fish were caught in Gilan province, 747 tons in Mazandaran Province and 11 tons in Golestan Province,” he noted.

According to Akhondi, about 34 percent of the caught fish was Caspian Kutum, 49 percent – mullet, 15 percent –carp, while 2 percent – other species.
