By Elnur Baghishov – Trend:

More than 100,000 tons of olives were harvested in 26 provinces of Iran in the current Iranian year (March 21, 2021 through March 20, 2022), an official, responsible for the 'olive plan' of the Ministry of Agriculture Jihad of Iran, Javad Mirarab Razi told IANA, Trend reports.

The official emphasized that about 5,000 tons of olive oil and 65,000 tons of canned olive were produced from the harvested olive.

Mirarab Razi added that 30,000 tons of olives were harvested in Iran's Zanjan Province, 18,000 tons in Qazvin Province, 15,000 tons in Fars Province and 11,000 tons in Gilan Province.

He also noted that climate change, cold weather and drought have resulted in a decrease in the volume of some local olive varieties.

"In this regard, the Iranian Ministry of Agriculture Jihad plans to implement a number of programs. Thus, drought control methods will be used, and selected changes will be made in irrigation systems," the official said.
