Iran discloses data on fruit cultivation

BAKU, Azerbaijan, Feb. 9

Iran cultivates an average of over 20 million tons of fruit a year, an official of the Iranian Ministry of Agriculture Jihad, Darab Hassani said, Trend reports citing the ministry.

According to Hassani, some of the fruits grown in the country's orchards, including apples, raisins, pistachios and etc. are exported to 80 countries around the world.

The official also added that there are currently 3 million hectares of orchards in the country, 1.8 million hectares of which are orchards in cold parts of the country, and the rest are tropical and subtropical orchards.

As for the issues related to drought and the management of water consumption, the official noted that the planting of fruit trees that use less water in the orchards, as well as, the management of water consumption in the orchards is in the focus of the Iranian Ministry of Agriculture Jihad.

“Due to this, fruit trees such as grapes and almonds that use less water are being planted on the slopes,” he said.
