Russia considers Turkmenistan important trading partner in region - Russian MFA

Russia continues to consider Turkmenistan as its important trading partner in the region, Trend reports citing Russia’s Foreign Ministry.

According to the source, the trade turnover between Turkmenistan and Russia reached almost $730 million in the first 10 months of 2021.

Starting from 2019, Gazprom, Russia's majority state-owned multinational energy corporation, resumed purchases of blue fuel produced in Turkmen fields, and the volume of export gas supplies increases year after year. Many large Russian companies, including Vozrozhdenie, KAMAZ, and Tatneft, are active in Turkmenistan.

The ministry also emphasizes the importance of the Intergovernmental Russian-Turkmen Commission on Economic Cooperation, which coordinates bilateral business relations and helps create a favorable business climate.

According to the ministry, the development of the legal framework of bilateral relations, which includes over 170 interstate, intergovernmental, and interdepartmental agreements governing interaction in the political, economic, military, humanitarian, and other fields, corresponds to the pace of economic interaction.

Turkmenistan and Russia have established close cooperation in healthcare, education, and culture, according to the source. As a result, Turkmenistan was among the first countries to register the Russian anti-coronavirus drugs Sputnik V, EpiVacCorona, and Sputnik Light. Last year, 330,000 kits of the Sputnik V vaccine were delivered to Ashgabat, while this January, Russia delivered to Turkmenistan 800,000 doses of the Sputnik Light vaccine, 300,000 of which were provided free of charge.

On February 22, the Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan R. O. Meredov will be in the Russian Federation on a working visit. His talks with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation Sergey Lavrov are planned.

Rashid Meredov, Turkmen Foreign Affairs Minister will pay a working visit to Russia on February 22 to meet with his Russian counterpart Sergey Lavrov.
