Iran records increase in exports via customs of East Azerbaijan Province

Iran’s exports through the customs of the East Azerbaijan Province (north-western Iran) increased by 42 percent in value and 18 percent in volume, during the first 10 months of the current Iranian year (March 21, 2021 through January 20, 2022), compared to the same period last Iranian year, Supervisor of East Azerbaijan Customs Office Leila Arvanaghi told IRNA, Trend reports.

The official emphasized that a total of 1.9 million tons of goods worth $1.24 billion were exported through the province's customs in 10 months.

“Main exported goods through the customs of East Azerbaijan Province were rubber, steel products, cereals, copper, glass materials, sweets and chocolate,” he added.

According to Arvanaghi, 567,000 tons of goods worth more than $468 million were exported to Turkey, 440,000 tons worth $282 million - to Iraq, 91,000 tons worth $63 million - to Afghanistan and 56,000 tons worth $47 million - to Azerbaijan through province’s customs.

“Over 10 months, more than 347,000 tons of goods worth $922 million were imported to Iran via the customs of East Azerbaijan Province, which is an increase of 16 percent in value and a decrease of 9 percent in volume, compared to the same period last Iranian year,” the official noted.

Arvanaghi also said that 256,000 tons of goods worth $497 million were imported from Turkey, 11,000 tons worth $130 million - from Germany, 27,000 tons worth $102 million - from the UAE, 15,000 tons worth $72 million - from China and 2,000 tons worth $18 million - from Japan through the province's customs.

The official pointed out that customs revenue of the East Azerbaijan Province for 10 months amounted to 6.38 trillion rials (about $152 million). This is an increase of 31 percent, compared to the same period last Iranian year.
