Iran looking to get its companies into Syria's farming sector

TEHRAN, Iran, June 1. Head of the Iranian Chamber of Commerce Gholamhossein Shafei announced Iran's plan for farming projects in Syria, using the technical ability of Iranian companies, Trend reports citing ILNA.

He asked the governments of the two countries to improve existing infrastructure and facilitate implementation of transportation, banking, and free trade agreements.

He stressed the need for increasing the current level of trade exchanges between the two countries to $1 billion per year.

Considering Iran's agricultural capability and the ideal soils for agriculture in Syria, he suggested the extra-territorial cultivation of agricultural products by Iranian companies in Syria.

Shafei announced the readiness of the Iranian private sector to cooperate with the Syrian private and public sectors in the reconstruction process of the Syrian industry and mining infrastructure.
