BAKU, Azerbaijan, June 11. Iran aims to at least double its trade turnover with the African countries by the end of the current year (March 21, 2022 through March 20, 2023), Deputy Minister of Industry, Mine and Trade and Head of Trade Promotion Organization of Iran (TPOI), Alireza Peymanpak said, Trend reports citing the organization’s website.

The deputy minister noted that the value of Iran's trade turnover with the African countries is expected to reach $2.5 billion by the end of this year.

“Meanwhile, in the last Iranian year (March 21, 2021 through March 20, 2022), the trade turnover amounted to $580 million,” he added.

According to Peymanpak, the value of trade turnover between Iran and African countries is expected to reach $5-$6 billion annually by March 21, 2025.

The chairman also pointed out that the reason why Iran's trade turnover with the African continent has not increased in recent years is that Iran has preferred to trade with more developed countries.

At present, the Iranian government has changed its trade policy. The country plans to increase exports to all possible markets.

“In this regard, Iran intends to establish lines for the transportation of goods by sea and air in all directions of Africa,” Peymanpak emphasized.
