BAKU, Azerbaijan, June 19. Serious steps are being taken to increase trade turnover between Iran and Kazakhstan, and the value of trade turnover between the two countries could be reached $3 billion in the first stage, Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi said, Trend reports citing IRNA.

He made the remark at a joint press conference with Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev in Tehran on June 19.

Raisi stressed that trade turnover between the two countries has increased by more than 50 percent in recent months.

Iranian president also added that cooperation between the two countries in regional organizations such as the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) and the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) may further develop.

“Cooperation with the Caspian littoral states is also a priority for Iran, and it intends to develop cooperation in this area,” he said.

According to Raisi, there are many opportunities between Iran and Kazakhstan to increase ties. The two countries can further develop relations in industry, agriculture, energy, transit, oil and gas.

During the press conference, Kassym-Jomart Tokayev said that today is the 30th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Kazakhstan and Iran. During this period, the two countries have had a lot of cooperation in many areas.

According to Tokayev, Kazakhstan and Iran have high-level relations in all areas, and these relations can be observed in international and regional spheres.

Tokayev added that both countries are interested in using the transit opportunity. In this regard, the corridors connecting east to west and north to south are of special importance.

Kazakh president also pointed out that Kazakhstan and Iran conducted talks in the field of agriculture today, and the signed documents will help develop cooperation between the two countries in this area.

“Iranian citizens can travel to Kazakhstan without a visa for 14 days,” Tokayev noted.

On June 19, 2022, nine documents and memorandums of cooperation were signed between Iran and Kazakhstan in Tehran.

Iran's trade turnover with Kazakhstan amounted to 729,000 tons worth more than $265 million over last Iranian year (March 21, 2021 through March 20, 2022).

The trade turnover between the two countries increased by 29 percent in value and 71 percent in volume compared to the preceding Iranian year (March 20, 2020 through March 20, 2021).
