Iran to reduce auto import tariffs

TEHRAN, Iran, August 15. The Iranian government is offering incentives to importers that include a 20 percent cut in auto import tariff, said the Deputy Minister of Industry, Mine and Trade Manouchehr Manteghi, Trend reports citing Mehr News Agency.

Auto import would maintain the market and create the ground for competitive prices between domestic products and foreign brands, he said.

The first stage of auto import is to supply affordable cars although expensive cars will be allowed to be imported, he noted.

Ministry of Industry, Mine and Trade has planned to solve the voids in the auto import and reducing import tariff would provide affordable price, the official stressed.

According to the deputy minister, the two major Iranian automakers are expected to produce affordable cars that would replace Samand and Tiba by the second half of the next Iranian year (starts March 21, 2023).
