AZERI-FRENCH BUSINESS FORUM STARTED

An Azerbaijani-French business-forum started its work in Baku on Wednesday. Attending the forum are around 30 French entrepreneurs and representatives from the Georgian business circles.

According to Farhad Aliyev, the Minister for Economic Development, during the long cooperation Azerbaijan has invested some $400m both in oil and on-oil sector of economy. The countries have more potential for cooperation, which is sure to reflect in increase of the capital investment in local economy, as well as goods

turnover.

"Azerbaijan sees its further development in close integration in to Europe, in particular under the New Neighborhood Program," the Minister underlined. For many years Azerbaijan was viewed exclusively an oil country.

"The non-oil sector, in particular, communications, transport, telecommunications, is intensively developed in the country over past few years,” Aliyev noted.

Under the State Program on socio-economic development, the new roads, electricity lines and water supply communications were constructed in the regions to promote the development of agriculture facilities here.

The Minister underlined Azerbaijan’s interests in cooperation with France in the spheres of tourism, finance, banking sector, winemaking, etc.

The French Senator, Ambruaz Dupont, noted that in 2004 export from France to Azerbaijan amounted to 103m euro, while export from Azerbaijan to France made up 118m euros.

A 2-day exhibition of French goods opened on Wednesday under a business-forum to last by Friday. It is also planned to arrange a conference on Agrarian sector and food industry, bilateral meetings between the entrepreneurs of Azerbaijan and France on Thursday, a roundtable with officials of the Transport Ministry on Friday and finally tour Lankaran.
