Agriculture Minister to participate in FAO conference

Ismat Abasov, the Agriculture Minister, will participate in the 33rd session of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) Conference in Italy from 19 tРѕ 26 November, the Ministry told Trend.

The FAO is the first specialized establishment of the UN with 150 members, founded on 16 October 1945. The goal of the organization is to provide technical aid in agriculture, production of agriculture goods and fish-processing. The headquarters of the FAO locates in Roma.

The Ministry noted that the conference would concern restoration of Azerbaijan’s suffrage as full member of the organization. “Azerbaijan is a member of the FAO from October 1995, but the organization made a decision on liquidation of Azerbaijan’s suffrage due to non-payment of membership fees. Though Azerbaijan notified the organization of readiness to pay the debt, the country’s suffrage was not restored,” the Ministry stressed.

Abasov intends to put the issue before the organization, also inject clarification to supposed opening of the representation in Baku, expansion of cooperation by increase of joint projects.
