Tea leaves harvest comprises about 740 tons in 2005

In 2005 Azerbaijan harvested around 740 tons of tea leaves, or 300 tons less as compared 2004. The main reason for low figure in 2005 is dry weather conditions, the Azerbaijani Agriculture Ministry told Trend.

Tea was harvested from at 3,700 hectares area under crop.

In 2005 the crop capacity comprised 1.8 centners per hectare against 2.5 centners in 2004.

Earlier the tea harvest for 2005 was forecasted at 1,100 tons. The figure made up 1,048 tons in 2004.

Tea is grown in the regions Lankaran, Astara, Masally, Zagatala and Lerik.
