At present only 503km section of the highway has been reconstructed. The reconstruction of the Alat-Hajigabul section was completed in 2004, the Ganja-Shamkir - 2005. The roads Hajigabul-Kurdamir and Shamkir-Gazakh are under reconstruction. The full reconstruction of the highway requires restoration of the roads Kurdamir-Ujar-Yevlakh-Ganja and Gazakh-Georgian border.
