The increase of the freight flow through automobile transport via the TRACECA corridor may be expected after the completion of the project on the reconstruction of the Baku-Georgian border highway, Akif Mustafayev, the TRACECA National Secretary, told Trend.

At present only 503km section of the highway has been reconstructed. The reconstruction of the Alat-Hajigabul section was completed in 2004, the Ganja-Shamkir - 2005. The roads Hajigabul-Kurdamir and Shamkir-Gazakh are under reconstruction. The full reconstruction of the highway requires restoration of the roads Kurdamir-Ujar-Yevlakh-Ganja and Gazakh-Georgian border.

Mustafayev stressed that around 15 lorries with Cornet-TIR guarantee-books pass through Azerbaijan. It is related to the bad state of the section of the Baku-Georgian border highway.

The full reconstruction of the highway, which is planned to be carried out during two years, will allow increase of transportations by 4-5 times.
