ASRD can lay Yalama-Baku communication cable

The Azerbaijani State Railway Department (ASRD) can lay a fiber-optic cable of communications on the Yalama-Baku route at the expense of own funds. The project may be implemented by Russian Company with necessary exprerience and equipment, ASRD told Trend.

ASRD supposes to install the cable as overhead line to reduce value of the project and simplify its technical maintenance. The cable of communications and signalization will increase reliability and safety of the route, as well as speed up exchange of information between Azerbaijan and Russia.

The Azerbaijani-Russian Economic Commission charged the Transport Ministries in taking into consideration that the development of the fiber-optic lines project on the Makhachkala-Samur section would be over in 2006 and Russian Jelezniye Dorogi JSC would set to its construction. ASRD is charged in unification of the construction of the line to the Yalama station, Azerbaijan. ASRD is due to hold a tender for laying of fiber-optic line on the Yalama-Baku section.

Earlier Azerbaijan in the cooperation with the European Union laid a fiber-optic cable on the Baku-Georgian board route. The initiator of the project is the European Union, allocated 14.8m euro grant to the South Caucasus countries, including, 6m euro to Azerbaijan, within the program on provision of South Caucasus railways with fiber-optic cable of telecommunications and signalization. The project was implemented by Croatian company. The cable was laid under railway.
