ADB allocates $39mln to fight bird flu in Azerbaijan

Technical aid in the amount of $39mln will be allocated by the Council of Directors of the Asian Development Bank (ADB) on March 14 to prevent the bird flu spread in Azerbaijan. After the confirmation of aid package ABD together with FAO, International Healthcare Organization would be able to assist countries, head of ADB in Baku Mathew Westfall told Trend.

We also cooperate with other donors - International development agency (USAID), World Bank, etc. ADB would be leading organization at the regional level, whereas WB at the world level. This agreement has been achieved at the Beijing international conference on bird flu, Westfall stated. Azerbaijan became the first country in the Caucasus and Central Asia, which has received aid from ADB.

Members of the bank would be able to use the technical aid from ADB. An aid assistance strategy is being prepared now by ABD to tackle the bird flu risk.
