Azerbaijani industry can encounter problems, if transferred to the European and American standards immediately, slow transition is needed, head of Standardization, Metrology and Patents Agency in Azerbaijan Ramiz Hasanov told Trend March 10.

It does not mean that local facilities are producing low quality produce. However, there are some industries that require step by step transition to the European standards, he said.

We have to have our own standards. Though, there are some standards that must remain unchanged, Hasanov said. He also added that, the problem of the quality signature in the country will be solved by the end of the year.

Hasanov stated that the food industry in Azerbaijan is not at a desirable level today. Unfortunately, there is no competition in Azerbaijan, so tackling facilities producing low quality produce and preventing large businesses from entering the international market is our major problem now, Hasanov commented.

Additionally, all certification in future would not be conducted by the state structures, but private companies.
