This year, over AZN 130mln will be spent under the projects set out in Presidents decree В"Modernization of transport system in Baku city in 2006-2007В". These funds are used to construct new bridges, passes, extensions of Baku-airport highway and new ring highway, first deputy Transport Minister Musa Panakhov told Trend. At the moment Azerbaijan is going to lay the road by its own, but further international financial institutions may get involved.

Total cost of these projects is nearly AZN 300mln. Four bridges are currently under construction; Baku-airport highway is being designed.

Azeri Ministry of transport started constructing a new bridge in mid-March near Azizbekov subway station. Its length is 2.5 km, it will cost some $25mln. Bridges at January 20 station and along Z.Bunyatov Avenue are estimated in AZN16mln and AZN8mln, respectively. The bridges construction will be performed by Azerikerpu.

Road junctions are constructed as per the up-to-date technologies. There will be no traffic lights on the bridges to avoid traffic jams. In the course of construction, foreign companies are involved as consultants.
