Transport ministry plans to hold a monitoring of transport fees in public transport. Any growth in prices should be economically motivated and explained, Trend reports citing the vice transport minister, Musa Panaxov. Public transport is profitable enough now, so there is no need to increase transport fees, Panahov said. However, there are cases of illegal increase of transport fees.

Transportation system in Baku is regulated by the City Transport Department, which is in charge of all tariffs. It has authority to influence owners of the public transport vehicles illegally increasing prices.

The given matter was on the minister` s agenda, but the Tariff council decided not to raise the price, he said. Illegal incidents took place since the increase of diesel prices in early 2006. The government does not see any necessity in doubling the transport fees as the total weight of fuel in transport expenditures is only 35%.

Panahov regards as possible launching raids to check the technical and medical safety of public transport vehicles. All public transport vehicles (busses and Taxi) should correspond to the technical and medical safety measures. Ministry is planning to create special venues for such check ups.
