Opening of Iranian cars manufacturing plant in Azerbaijan postponed
The opening ceremony of the new plant on production of Iranian automobiles Samand will be held in Shamakhi district of Azerbaijan on 3 June 2006. The Azerbaijani Minister for Economic Development, Heydar Babayev, and the Iranian Minister for Industry and Mining are expected to participate in the ceremony.
This plant has been constructed in a record period 4 months. The project cost amounted to $10m. The construction was financed by Star Holding company. Around 6 thousand automobiles Samand are expected to be produced at the plant during the first year.
Iran Khodrow, an automobile manufacturer of Iran, says at present new and used automobiles of popular automaker companies of Southern Korea, Japan, USA and European countries prevail in the automobile market Azerbaijan and other countries of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS),. Obligatory term of commercial success of Samand cars should be a rigorous technical control over production and flexible price policy, the group says.
Azerbaijan will be a base for the progress of Samand automobiles in the market of other countries of CIS. These countries will be the republics of the Central Asia, as well as Georgia and Ukraine, Iran Khodrow notes.
