Rise of non-oil GDP in Azerbaijan attains 10% in first half-year

The State Statistics Committee has publicized some expected forecasts on macroeconomic indices for the end of 2006. Arif Veliyev, the chairman of the State Statistics Committee, told a news conference on 18 July that the GDP will increase no less than 30%, whereas the industrial production - 30-40%.

According to Veliyev, such forecast can be made coming out of data fixed in the first half-year. The volume of production of the GDP rose 36.3%, comprising 7,164 billion manats, while in industry it was 41.1% and made up 5,903 billion manats.

Such a rise of GDP, is explained with increase of oil production, as except the oil sector (production and refinery) a rise of the GDP was fixed at 10%. The share of non-oil sector in the GDP makes up 45.5%.

"If earlier Azerbaijan produced 9-10 million tons of oil, in the first half-year the country produced 14.5 million tons. The volume of gas production also increased 30% to 3.4 billion cu m, the head of the State Committee underlined.
