WB director meets with Azeri Finances Minister, Energy Minister

During the visit which started on 27 July the Director of the Energy and Infrastructure Department, the Department for Infrastructure in Europe and Central Asia at the World Bank, Peter Tompson, held his first meeting the Finance Minister Samir Sharifov and Minister for Industry and Energy, Natik Aliyev.

The government told Trend that during the meeting the sides had exchange of opinion in water supply, transport, as well as Program on treatment of oil and gas polluted area in Absheron.

Different variants were considered for treatment of areas in Absheron. Initially, the WB strategy on partnership with Azerbaijan envisages $40-60m in this respect.

In accordance with the transport strategy the Finances Ministry considered problems of road construction, ways for removal of traffic jams. The WB has stated about its plans on investing some $550m in the country.

The bank is also ready to render financial assistance to the improvement of water supply to the country and is ready to allot a $150m credit against the sum required in the amount ranging from $270m to $700m, depending on different WB variants for rehabilitation of water system in Azerbaijan.

During the visit to last till 2 August the guest will hold meetings with some Ministers and heads of state bodies of economic profile, as well as Azerbaijani Prime Minister Artur Rasizade.
