World Bank offers help in Baku transport system regulation

The World Bank addressed Azerbaijani government with proposal on helping in regulation of Baku city transport system, Trend reports with reference to the Cabinet of Ministers. The project was discussed at the meeting with Peter Thompson, director of power engineering and infrastructure, World Bank, who is currently in Baku.

The World Bank also offers its participation in the third and fourth road projects, which now is being discussed in the government. This will be a continuation of executed projects, Beylagan-Zagatala, Ismailla-Gara Maryam (between Geychay and Akhsu), Mingachevir-Ismailla, as well as the second line from Hajigabul and so on. The bank also offered to finance countryside and regional roads in Zagatala and Balakan areas.

Governmental officials said there is no problem with execution of the second road project financed by WB. The project stipulates extension and change of route of highway Alat-Masallah, repairs of road Baku-Shemakha-Mugan connecting Baku to western regions of the republic. Operations on the first section of the highway are commencing in September and those in Baku-Shemakha in October.
