Azerbaijan started to upgrade the legislation and bring it into conformity with the international standards and standards of the World Trade Organization (WTO) and agreements signed within WTO.

On August 2, Azerbaijani president signed an order to implement the plan of measures for upgrade of the Azerbaijani legislation, Mahmud Mammadguliyev, the head of the negotiation group and also the deputy foreign minister, told Trend.

According to him, it is a serious step for activating and accelerating the works in the direction of considering, inspecting and making changes and additions to the legislative acts of Azerbaijan, which is the key task put by the WTO before the country.

First, it will accelerate the negotiation process regarding Azerbaijanis entrance to the WTO. On the other hand, it needs in order to successfully continue the economic reforms, the deputy minister said. According to the plan of measures, the changes to the legislation should be realized within 2007. The completion of the negotiations of Azerbaijans entrance to WTO depends on it.

The trade regime in Azerbaijan is one of the key questions in the negotiations on Azerbaijans entrance to WTO and found its reflection in the questions addressed by WTO member-countries to Azerbaijani side. They touch up on the licensing, customs procedure, and especially changes, which Azerbaijani government will make to the legislation regarding outer trade.

The exchanges are expected to be made to the Customs Code and mainly the legislative acts for standardization. Upgrading the legislative acts for controlling the quality of products will take much time because there are many different legislations on standardization.

The members of WTO require that the legislation should be clear and non-contradictory.
